We support our manikins throughout their entire lifetime. Our services are designed to ensure that every manikin continues to perform reliably, generate high‑quality data, and deliver maximum value to research and development projects for decades.
In fact, almost all PT Teknik manikins delivered over the last 35+ years are still in active use today. It is the result of long‑term support, continuous upgrades and close collaboration with our customers.
In addition to the standard support and software updates, we offer the following services:
Technical Support & Software Updates
We provide ongoing online support and usage advice at no additional cost for all PT Teknik manikins.
Customers have direct access to our engineers for:
- troubleshooting
- configuration guidance
- test methodology consultation
- applications-specific questions
- interpretation of measurement results
Our manikin control software is continuously updated and improved, and new versions are always available to existing users. This ensures compatibility with new standards, updated models and evolving research requirements.
Manikin Rental
We offer short‑term and long‑term rental of a standard 23‑zone thermal manikin.
This service is particularly suited for:
- research projects with limited duration
- feasibility studies
- tender preparation
- customers who want hands‑on experience before purchasing
Rental arrangements include:
- transport
- online installation support
- user training
- technical assistance throughout the rental period
Many customers first meet PT Teknik through rental projects – and continue into long‑term collaboration afterwards.
Manikin Upgrades – Extending system lifetime
Older PT Teknik manikins can often be upgraded to current performance levels.
Upgrade services may include:
- new electronics and firmware
- updated internal cabling
- new sensing or control modules
- integration of additional functionality (e.g. breathing)
After upgrade, the manikin offers the same reliability and performance benefits as newer systems, significantly extending its usable lifetime.
We also offer the JOS‑3 thermo‑regulatory model as an optional upgrade, enabling more advanced physiological simulation and transient comfort analysis.
Preventive Maintenance
Although PT manikins are inherently robust and often operate for years without intervention, some customers request preventive maintenance visits.
An annual service visit may include:
- calibration verification
- mechanical inspection
- performance validation
- wear‑and‑tear assessment
Preventive maintenance is recommended for:
- high‑utilisation laboratories
- accreditation‑driven environments
- long‑running experimental setups
The goal is simple: avoid downtime and preserve data quality.
Project‑Based Consulting & Special Solutions
With decades of experience in thermal comfort and clothing performance research, PT Teknik also supports customers on a project basis.
These projects may include:
- application‑specific testing campaigns
- method development aligned with ISO/ASTM standards
- interpretation of complex comfort data
- development of custom or novel thermal devices
- integration of manikins into broader test setups
This service is typically used when:
- standard methods do not fully cover the research question
- a new application field is explored
- results need to support certification, tenders or design decisions
Cabins, clothing, HVAC: Holger tests them all
Some of our manikins spend their lives in European universities, visualizing airflow around the human body.
Others test radiant heating panels, ventilated car seats, clothing properties or indoor air quality.
One of our rental manikins – known affectionately by customers as Holger – has travelled between seven different customers in a single year, testing everything from passenger‑car cabins and ventilated mattresses to camouflage clothing and protective gear.
Regardless of location or application, our role remains the same: to keep the manikin reliable, accurate and ready for the next challenge.
