Built environment & HVAC

Energy efficient design of heating and cooling systems in buildings requires a solid understanding of human thermal comfort. Our leading range of manikins for the Build environment help researchers gain fundamental insights into thermal dynamics in a room as well as a reliable evaluation of human thermal comfort and air quality in a given environment. We offer thermal manikins which can heat, breath and sweat – in both male, female and/or child body forms. 

Transportation 

The thermal environment in vehicles is highly complex and a thermal manikin is the ideal tool for understanding how factors like solar radiation, air circulation, seat heat conduction, clothing etc. influence thermal comfort during transport. Our dedicated automotive manikin system is fitted to standard car seats and highly reliable and robust tools for standard steady state, heat up and cool down scenarios. ​

Clothing & wearables

The assessment of insulation values and evaporative properties of clothing is a classic application of thermal manikins. Our dedicated manikin systems include full body sweating and thermal manikins as well as more specialized hand, foot and head manikins. All systems comply with the relevant ISO and ASTM testing standards, and a range of accessories such as walking/motion systems are available depending on the specific testing requirements.

Our research manikins generate repeatable data to help provide new knowledge about thermal comfort phenomena and speed up research and development activities. In contrast to test with humans, the manikins make ‘objective’ thermal comfort assessments, not influenced by subjective factors such as mood, food/drink intake etc.
