Built environment & HVAC

Energy efficient design of heating and cooling systems in buildings requires a solid understanding of human thermal comfort. Our leading range of manikins for the Built environment help researchers gain fundamental insights into thermal dynamics in a building, as well as a reliable evaluation of human thermal comfort and air quality in a given environment. We offer thermal manikins which are able to simulate heat production, breathing and sweating of a human body. Manikins are available in many configurations in both male, female and/or child body forms.

Automotive / Transportation

Indoor climate of transportation vehicles is highly complex and a thermal manikin is the ideal tool for understanding how factors like solar radiation, HVAC systems air circulation, seat heating/cooling/ventilation and humans clothing influence thermal comfort during transport. Our dedicated automotive manikin system is produced to fit standard car seats to ensure realistic contact with the seat during testing scenarios. With state-of-the-art simulation of the human body, thermal manikins are highly reliable and robust tools for testing cabin environments in both standard steady state and heat up / cool down scenarios.

Clothing & wearables

The assessment of clothing properties, mainly thermal insulation and evaporative resistance is typical application of thermal and sweating manikins. Our dedicated manikin systems include full body sweating thermal manikins as well as more specialized separate body parts such as hand, foot or head manikins. Our manikin systems are highly customizable in number of zones and sweating glands. All systems comply with the relevant ISO and ASTM testing standards, and a range of accessories such as walking/motion systems are available depending on the specific testing requirements.

Whether you are a university, research institution or private business

Our research manikins generate repeatable data to help provide new knowledge about thermal comfort phenomena and speed up research and development activities. In contrast to test with humans, the manikins make ‘objective’ thermal comfort assessments, not influenced by subjective factors such as mood, food/drink intake etc.

Our manikin solutions have been developed, and continuously improved, over the last 30 years, in dialogue with customers and leading researchers. We take pride in the fact that almost all the manikins delivered since the early 90’s are still in full use.
