The automotive manikin is a special configuration of the standard PT thermal manikin technology with a manikin body which fits a seating position and has a realistic seat-interface. In that way, the manikin will be able to pick up all sources of heating/cooling – both front-vent, seat HVAC, radiation panels etc. – and provide a full picture of the thermal comfort in the vehicle.
The manikins accurately measures the skin temperature and heat-loss, and calculates the equivalent temperature according to ISO 14505. The manikin also evaluates thermal comfort, both according to the PMV (ISO 7730), ISO 14505 and the Berkeley model to assess both the full body thermal comfort and the thermal sensation of individual bodyparts.
To accommodate both heat up and cool down scenarios, the automotive manikin has an extended temperature range.
The manikin is male/neutral shaped with 12 – 36 customized thermal zones. The lower body and upper body of the manikin can be separated, making it is easy to pull in and out of a car seat during a test-run.
